How To Choose The Right Car Tyre?

Tyres are essential parts of your car as they are the only connection between vehicles and a road surface. Every car owner needs to know how to buy tyres to enhance the acceleration, braking, and handling of the car. Good quality tyres can help in improving fuel efficiency. At the same time, cheap quality tyres can give an unpleasant and bumpy ride.

A good tire buying guide is essential. Owners need to know how to select a car tyre based on the model, car tyre size and more. In this article, learn everything about car modificationand what are the critical factors that one should consider while buying car tyres for better performance.

How To Choose Tyre For Cars In India?: Car Tyre Buying Guide

The following factors are important ones that every individual can consider while selecting a set of tyres for your cars:

  1. Tube-type or tubeless:

While selecting between tubeless and tube-type tyres, one should always go for tubeless ones as they are much more advanced and safer than tube-type tyres. In addition to this, they have some advantages. Furthermore, you do not have to get alloy wheels to install tubeless tyres. The steel wheels also do good, given that they are rust free and have an anti-rust coating inside. Therefore, in the tyre buying guide, considering tube-type or tubeless tyres are very important.

  1. Size of the tyre:

The size of the tyre comes in as an essential part of the tyre buying guide. While buying new tyres, one should give special attention to the size; for that, one should know how to read a tyre’s size and how to choose tire size. Generally, size is mentioned on any tyre’s sidewall, and it is represented in a standardised manner. For instance, 195/55R 16 87V. This can be read as 195 mm is the tread width of the tyre, 55% is the percentage of the tread width that contributes to making the sidewall’s height.

R refers to the tyre’s radial construction, and 16 is the inches that refer to the wheel’s diameter. V refers to the speed rating of the tyre. The size of a tyre can be depicted in three parts. This includes the rim’s size, the width of the tread of the tyre and the height of the sidewalls. Let’s understand each of them one by one.

  • Rim size:

While choosing a tyre, one needs to keep in mind that the tyre’s size is the same as that of the rim you want to install.  If your car's rim is larger than your tyre, it will decrease the sidewall’s height that will adversely affect the vehicle’s ride and quality handling.

  • Tread width:

One should select the tread width very carefully as it is responsible for your comfort and your car's performance on the road. Tread width will depend on the kind of driver you are and on the vehicle that you drive. For instance, if you own a car that generates a lot of power and keeps high speeds while taking corners and still want the car to look robust and stylish, go for a wider tread.

  • Sidewall height:

When you are done selecting the accurate rim size and proper tread width, the next move will be to choose a sidewall height that helps keep the overall size of the new tyre similar to that of the old tyres.

  1. Tread pattern

In car tyre maintenance, choosing your tyres’ tread pattern is another pivotal task, which should not be ignored. The tread pattern of a tyre plays a vital role in your overall driving experience as they are responsible for your car’s performance in various weather conditions. They are responsible for channelling the water away when you drive in a water-logged area.  There are three types of tread patterns:

  • Conventional tread:

The most commonly used tread pattern can be run in both directions and can be mounted on the wheel either way as it does not have either of the unidirectional or asymmetric patterns. These types of tyres are beneficial in channelling away water while driving through a waterlogged area.

  • Unidirectional tread:

In the car tyre buying guide, unidirectional tread patterns work most effectively when they are rotated in a single direction. The tyres’ sidewalls will have an arrow mark that will mention which direction that tyre is meant to be turned.

  • Asymmetric thread:

These tyres in the tyre selection guide help in high-speed cornering and have to mark on the sidewalls stating which side is meant to be road facing and car facing.

Conclusion

Wondering how to find the right tires for my car? Remember to follow the points mentioned above as one needs to be selective and educated enough with the correct tyre buying guide. A brief to this has been attempted in the article, which gives insight into the essential car emergency items that should not be ignored to enhance the car’s performance and safety.
