It's Time to Replace Your Engine Fluids: How Old Engine Fluids Could Be Killing Your Car

You are either the kind of person who is punctual for refilling and changing the engine fluid, or you are the person who is least concerned with it. Well, you can be someone between the two also. But are you aware that changing and refilling engine fluids on a regular basis is highly important for the car's efficiency?

There are two different types of car drivers – one who finds the changing of the engine fluid to be good and an essential part of car maintenance, while others who consider the regular changing of fluid to be bad for the engine's health. However, it is not so! The process of changing, refilling or flushing the engine fluid entirely depends upon the vehicle, its progress, and maintenance record. But, when you havea brand new car, for caution, you need tofollow the manufacturer'srecommended fluid change intervals. After all, the manufacturer designed, engineered, and assembled your automobile parts, so you should keep a few things in concern.

How Old-Engine Fluids Could Be Damaging Your Car?

As the car gets old, the car fluid also gets old and dirty, affecting the car's performance and life efficiency. Thus, it becomes essential to change car fluids. However, many people don't know much about changing the fluids and the consequences to be suffered then. So, let's head up to have a look.

Engine Fluids

While driving an automobile, the combustion engines get into operation, and simultaneously heat and friction are generated. This heat and friction are reduced by the engine oil, which lubricates the engine and simultaneously reduces the friction created with the collision of metals. After all, friction leads to heat and more friction, making the metals reach their smoke point, which can damage the engine and create fire in the combustion.

With the regular usage of the vehicle, the engine fluid breaks down and tends to lose its potency, which may create irreparable damages inside the engine. Thus, it becomes necessary to change engine oil after a specific period to protect the car from the adverse effects of not changing engine oil on time. But when to change engine oil, especially in petrol cars? When it comes to synthetic blends, the engine fluid must be changed after every 8,000 Kms. For full synthetics, the fluid must be changed after every 10,000 Kms, and when it comes to the conventional oils, the engine oil changes and gets replaced after every 5,000 Kms.

Coolant

As the engine's temperature fluctuates with the environment's temperature and the car usage, the coolant regulates or controls the engine's temperature. This makes it mandatory to check the coolant's pH balance regularly. If you feel that the liquid has become old and now is of no use, you can flush it and replace it with new fluid. But do not let it stay unattended for too long as it can be hazardous for the engine. You need to check the coolant regularly because the coolant loses its efficacy with time, so there can be a risk of the fluid evaporating due to heat. If it is left unattended, all the liquid will evaporate, leaving no fluid in reserve.

Fluid for Brakes

Car brakes come equipped with a fluid that contains a specific chemical. This chemical absorbs the liquid generated within the brakes' lines after a particular period. With regular usage, this fluid starts to diminish, so the chemical's effectiveness also vanishes. If this fluid is not replaced timely, it may cause the water inside to boil and get corrosive with the present elements in the surrounding. This may damage the brake shoes, and your car may not work smoothly as earlier.

Fluid for Power Steering

The cars with power steering have a fluid inside them, ensuring their smooth and hassle-free movement. But, like all other fluids, this fluid also breaks down with usage, but not early. This fluid needs to get changed after the travel of every 48,000 to 50,000 Kms. However, it also depends upon the car's efficiency. So, you can get the necessary information about replacing the power steering fluid in the car manual or with direct contact with the seller.

Fluids for Transmissions

Transmission fluid is used for the smooth shifting of the gear in the gearbox. It ensures that the gears don't grind and the movement doesn't fumble in between the driving. However, there is no need to replace the transmission fluid frequently. If your car is new, then the fluid can work for a few years, but it needs to be replaced after a year or so as your car will grow old.

Fluid Differential

The differential fluid to be replaced depends upon the type of usage of the car. If the vehicle is used for a daily commute, then there is no need to replace this fluid frequently. You can directly go for one after the car has covered more than 96,000 Kms. However, if you have a sports car and are used in car racing, then the differential fluid is expected to be removed quite frequently. You just need your mechanic to keep a regular check on your car during such situations.

Fuel

Injectors, where the fuel is deposited, get damaged with the regular deposit or varnish accumulated on the injector's surface. This can be due to heat soaks, corroded fuel lines, fouled injectors, or clogged filters. It leads to fuel inefficiency, unreliable acceleration, rough idling, damaged gaskets, and many more issues, affecting the car's efficiency. Thus, it becomes essential to check through the injectors timely and use gasoline for a faster fuel system cleaning.

What Is The Cost Of Engine Oil Change In India?

It includes car engine oil change and car engine oil filter change when it comes to essential luxury car servicing of the engine oil. However, the cost of engine oil change varies from one local mechanic to another. Usually, the price of car engine oil starts from INR 900, and the cost of car engine oil filters starts from INR 80.
